Flick was sent off after protesting the decision to award Real Betis a penalty in the second half. Although the German showed no contempt, he was shown red nonetheless, leaving many, including Flick himself, in anger.
When will Flick return to the touchline?
Although Barcelona are expected to appeal against Flick’s red card, the German, if current sanctions hold, may have to spend considerable time off the pitch.
As reported by Diario SPORT, Flick could be ruled out of the touchline at the Montjuic for about a month and a half.
According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona’s appeal against Hansi Flick’s red card led the RFEF to extend his ban from 2 to 6 games. The German manager will be sidelined for the next SIX league games.
The games that Flick will miss
That is because the suspension will apply to two home matches for Barcelona in La Liga, thereby ruling Hansi Flick out for the games against Leganes and, the crucial fixture against Atletico Madrid.
The Catalan side will take on Leganes on December 15, while Atletico Madrid is scheduled for December 21. Flick will be unavailable for these two matches.
The former Bayer Munich boss will only be allowed to return to the Barcelona bench at Montjuic on January 26, when the Catalans take on Valencia.
Until Flick is out of action at Montjuic, his assistant, Oliver Sorg, will take charge from the touchline.
Since the red card is only applied in La Liga football, Flick will still be available for UEFA Champions League fixtures.
He will be present in matches against Borussia Dortmund, Athletic Club, and SL Benfica.
