BATTING COACH CALLS FOR GRADUAL TRANSITION AFTER INDIA’S T20 WORLD CUP WIN
Furthermore, Rathour called for a gradual transition of India’s T20I squad after the team’s T20 World Cup 2024 title victory.
The batting coach wants India’s team management to implement changes “in a controlled manner” amid the retirements of several of its stars.
Moreover, Rathour was referring to Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who all announced their retirements after India beat South Africa in the final.
“It is never going to be easy to replace people of Rohit and Virat’s caliber,” Rathour told Press Trust of India.
“The recently concluded (T20I) series against Zimbabwe gave us a glimpse into how the T20 team will look like in the future,” he added.
India beat Zimbabwe, 4-1.

Moreover, India’s T20I team should gradually integrate changes under new coach Gautam Gambhir, says Rahour.
Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid starting in India’s Sri Lanka tour.
He will also take over from India’s interim T20I coach VVS Laxman, who coached India in the Zimbabwe series.
Interestingly, only Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashavi Jaiswal, remain from India’s T20 World Cup title squad who will return.
Meanwhile, Rathour is not worried about the team’s transition.
“I won’t be too concerned about it (transition). We have a lot of depth in Indian cricket,” the batting coach said.
GILL, PANT, JAISWAL SHOULD EASE T20 TEAM’S TRANSITION, SAYS COACH
Furthermore, key players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Jaiswal should ease the T20 team’s transition, the coach said.
“I am hoping that by then, players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashavi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, to name a few, would establish themselves and will make the transition smooth,” Rathour said.
“But these two (Gill and Jaiswal) are equipped to play all three formats for a long time,” he added.
The coach also cited Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya “to take over” in India’s ODI (One Day International) squad.
Moreover, Rathour is also high on Rinku Singh, who averaged 54.70 after 69 first-class innings.
“He (Singh) is also blessed with a very calm temperament. When I see him bat in nets, I can’t find any technical reasons why Rinku cannot be a successful Test batter,” Rathour said.
“So all these factors indicate that if given an opportunity, he can develop into a Test cricketer,” he added.
