Bruno Fernandes demands trophy and home improvement from Man Utd
Bruno Fernandes demanded that Manchester United quit dropping so many points at home and have themselves a trophy after four years of having without any reasonable success. He has made no secret of the truth that he is a bad loser and needs everyone around him at Old Trafford to have a similar mindset.
Club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær will now be hoping to see the winning mentality of a charismatic figure rub off on the rest of the Red Devils.
What exactly has been said?
When asked how Manchester United can improve, here was what Bruno Fernandes told FourFourTwo:
“We need to win more matches. We can’t drop as many points as we do at home, but we’ve been in second… At the start of the season, there weren’t many people who were saying United would be second.”
He further mentioned:
“After a few games and a bad start, nobody was saying United could reach the top of the table, but we ignored what people were saying on the outside. We knew what we had said on the inside, we had confidence that things would improve, and they did. We still have to be the best United we can, but we have improved.”
Bruno Fernandes also added on the need to secure major silverware. He said:
“We can’t think of anything else at this club. United is made for trophies and the whole mood is around that. We reached the semis (of the League Cup) and lost to City, but that’s not enough. That wasn’t our time – we need to be in (the) finals, and to win them.”
Manchester United’s record on home soil in 2020-21
Manchester United have received more points on their travels this season than they have taken at Old Trafford. Solskjær’s side remains undealt with away from home, however suffered four defeats in their own backyard.
The defensive record of Manchester United on the road is far better than when at home with seven fewer goals conceded, 13 to 20. Then there were losses to rival Manchester City at the Carabao Cup and to Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League group stage match, both held at the old haunts of United.
Can they secure a trophy this season?
Manchester City are easing their way towards the Premier League title, with Manchester United 14 points off the pace. The Red Devils have seen other routes to domestic silverware in the FA Cup as well as the Carabao Cup shut off, leaving them with only one more shot at glory in 2021.
Solskjær’s troops are into the quarterfinals of the Europa League. There they will meet Granada.
However, they have made this habit of tripping up before trophies come into reach. In the space of 12 months, four semifinal setbacks have been suffered.
All Bruno Fernandes is asking from his club is that they rekindle the killer instinct they used to have.
