CELTICS VS KNICKS OPENER HAS BRIDGES’ STEAL WINNING GAME 1 FOR NEW YORK IN OT
The Celtics vs Knicks opener has Bridges’ steal winning it for New York in OT, 108-105, in Boston.
Furthermore, the 28-year-old guard/forward stole the ball from Jaylen Brown in the waning seconds, preventing the Celtics from getting a potential game-tying 3.
Moreover, Bridges chipped in just eight points but he had three steals – the last one all the more important as the Knicks stole one on the road.
OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson scored 29 points each for the Knicks, who are coming off a gruelling 4-2 series win over the Detroit Pistons in the opening round.
Karl Anthony Towns and Josh Hart had 14 points apiece for New York.
NEW YORK RALLIES FROM 20-POINT DEFICIT TO FORCE OT
New York had to rally from a 20-point deficit to force OT before the Knicks took over.
Moreover, the TD Garden crowd in Boston was expecting a blowout but what they got was a thriller to open their second-round series.
Furthermore, the Knicks won despite foul trouble plaguing Karl Anthony Towns, Brunson, and Hart, who got two fouls early in the first quarter.
That forced Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau, a stickler for his starters and a tight rotation, to play his bench.
Reserve big man Mitchell Robinson came in for Hart, a mismatch Boston exploited.
Jayson Tatum scored 13 of his team’s 26 points in the first 12 minutes of the match.

BROWN, TATUM LEAD BOSTON IN LOSING CAUSE
Brown and Tatum led Boston in a losing cause with 23 points each.
Furthermore, Tatum struggled with a 7-of-23 shooting and 4-of-15 on 3-pointers.
Moreover, Brown went 7-of-20 but was 1-of-10 from deep for the Celtics.
Derrick White scored 19 points and Jrue Holiday had 16 for Boston, which went 15-of-60 on 3-pointers.
However, big man Kristaps Porzingis played only 13 minutes and was 0-for-4 from the field.
He played through a non-COVID illness but he just can’t get going.
Celtics coach Joe Mazulla finally replaced his 7-foot-3 Latvian center wiyh 7:34 remaining before halftime.
