Echeverri joins Man City

The young midfielder signed for the Club in January 2024 but remained on loan at River Plate until last month.

Echeverri has signed a contract until 2028 and will be part of City’s squad for the remainder of the season.

City director of football Txiki Begiristain described Echeverri as “one of the finest talents to emerge from South America in recent years.”

“I cannot tell you how excited I am to be here in Manchester and to finally be able to call myself a Manchester City player,” Echeverri said.

“Football has been my life and my dream was to play for one of the best teams in Europe. Today I am closer to that dream.”

“Manchester City are one of the best teams in the world. Not only do they win trophies, they play the game so beautifully.”

Young midfielder on the rise

Echeverri, 19, will bring youthful energy to a struggling City squad, which was reinforced during the winter transfer window with the addition of five players.

City also signed midfielder Nico Gonzalez, defenders Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Christian McFarlane, as well as Egypt forward Omar Marmoush.

The attacking midfielder recently competed in the South American U-20 Championship, where he captained Argentina to a runners-up finish.

He scored six goals in nine matches, making him the tournament’s second-highest scorer.

During his time at River Plate, Echeverri recorded four goals and eight assists for the Argentine club.
