CONMEBOL FACES RAPS FROM FANS AFTER CHAOS IN ARGENTINA-COLOMBINA FINAL
Furthermore, Conmebol faces raps from fans after chaos prevailed in the Argentina-Colombia final last Sunday.
The South American soccer’s governing body will face at least two charges where each suit is seeking over USD100,000 in damages.
Moreover, a certain Jacqueline Martinez filed the first suit on Monday.
Martinez charged the South Florida Stadium LLC (Hard Rock Stadium) and the Confederacion Sudamerica de Futbol in the Circuit Court for the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County.
The trio of Marta Pintos, Eduardo Martinez, and Nicolas Osorio filed the second suit against the same defendants.
Therefore, the complainants claimed that they purchased tickets for the final but they failed to enter the stadium.
This was due to the failure of organizers to address crowd control issues.
FANS WITHOUT TICKETS BROKE THROUGH SECURITY BARRIERS IN FINAL
Moreover, fans without tickets broke through security barriers to enter the stadium during the final.
The venue was locked down by stadium personnel to regain control over the unruly fans.
However, the venue was reopened after some fans were at risk of getting crushed against the gates.
This served as an opportunity for fans without tickets to barge and deny fans with tickets from entering.
Martinez said in her complaint that she bought four tickets to the Copa America final for USD4,395.59.
“Despite having a valid ticket, Plaintiff was denied entry to the sporting event due to a large number of individuals rushing the arena and entering unlawfully, which resulted in overcrowding and safety concerns,” the complaint said.
CONMEBOL BLAMES HARD ROCK STADIUM FOR NOT HEEDING ITS RECOMMENDATIONS
Furthermore, Conmebol on Monday blamed the Hard Rock Stadium for not heeding its recommendations for the final.
Conmebol did not respond to requests for comments from ESPN.
Meanwhile, the complaint cited the “unlawful entry of individuals into the arena” that prevented the organizers from enforcing “adequate crowd control measures.”
“As a result of being denied entry, Plaintiff was unable to attend the sporting event and suffered monetary loss, emotional distress, and other damages,” it added.
On the other hand, Hard Rock authorities on Tuesday responded to Conmebol’s accusations.
It insisted that Hard Rock “exceeded” Conmebol security recommendations.
