CRICKET TO FEATURE SIX MEN’S, WOMEN’S TEAMS TO DISPUTE GOLD IN LA GAMES

Expect cricket to feature six men’s and women’s teams to dispute the gold in the LA Games.

Furthermore, Games organizers, LA2028, confirmed the information on Wednesday.

Moreover, the participating teams will play under the T20 (Twenty20) format.

Each team will be allowed to name 15 players to their squads, bring the total to 90 athlete quotas for each gender.

Only the United States is guaranteed of a slot to both men’s and women’s competitions due to its hosting duties to the Games.

FIVE SLOTS TO BE DISPUTED IN QUALIFICATION

This would leave five slots to be disputed by several countries when qualification will be staged,

Furthermore, India, Australia, England, New Zealand, and West Indies currently hold the top five positions in the ICC (International Cricket Council) T2OI men’s rankings.

Moreover, the women’s rankings are led by Australia, England, New Zealand, India, and South Africa,

They are just some of the 12 full members of the ICC, which also includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.

Additionally, there are also 94 countries which are part of the ICC’s associated members group.

128-YEAR ABSENCE TO END IN 2028 LA GAMES

The 128-year absence of cricket in the Olympics will end in LA in three years’ time.

Furthermore, the last time cricket was plated in the Games was at the 1900 Olympics in Paris.

Moreover, cricket was one of five new sports which will be unveiled at the 2028 Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the inclusion of cricket for LA2028 in 2023.

Baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash were the four other sports making their Olympic debut.
