Olmo signs with Barcelona

Reports stated that the deal is worth an initial €55 million, with an additional €7m due in potential add-ons.

Overall, the 26-year-old signed a six-year contract at the club until June 2030, with a release clause set at €500m.

The signing came amid Barca’s problem of financial restrictions imposed by LaLiga’s spending cap.

The club set its sights on Olmo after a Nico Williams deal seemed unlikely, sources told ESPN.

Sporting director Deco met with Leipzig’s representatives on Tuesday to complete the signing.

The Spain international will be unveiled on Friday before Monday’s friendly against Monaco at the Olympic Stadium.

Barcelona set sights on Olmo after Williams deal unlikely: sources
Barcelona has set its sights on Dani Olmo after a deal for Nico Williams is getting unlikely, according to sources on Tuesday.

“I very much want to get started. These days have been intense, but everything happened so fast and I will forever be grateful to Leipzig,” Olmo told reporters. “We’re giving it everything we’ve got in this new stage.”

Forever grateful to Leipzig

The signing is also a sweet homecoming for Olmo.

The versatile forward began his journey at Barça’s La Masia academy in 2007, after starting his youth career with local rivals Espanyol, before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in 2014.

Olmo has 124 appearances for the Croatian side before signing for Leipzig in 2020, where he won two DFB-Pokals and a DFL-Supercup.

He even scored a hat trick in the final last year in a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich.

“A young club, a young player … We grew up, won our first trophies and made history together,” Olmo said on Instagram.

“Two Cups and the Super Cup are just some of the many unforgettable moments that’ll always stay with me. Thank you RB Leipzig, you’ll forever be in my heart.”

Olmo played a key role in Spain’s championship run in EURO 2024, tallying three goals and two assists in his six games.
