Why is Mbappe being compared to Durant?
The 25-year-old officially confirmed that he signed with Real Madrid on Monday.
“A dream come true, So happy and proud to join the club of my dream,” he wrote on X.
“Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. ¡Hala Madrid!”
The announcement came just a couple of days after Madrid won the Champions League title over Borussia Dortmund.
Fans on social media drew a parallel to Durant’s infamous free agency decision to join the Golden State Warriors from the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016.
Durant, who now plays for the Phoenix Suns, joined a Warriors team that had just come off back-to-back NBA Finals appearances.
Meanwhile, Mbappe will join a Madrid team that recently won the LaLiga and UCL title this season.
