DJOKOVIC MUM ON EYE PROBLEM THAT SLOWED HIM IN MIAMI FINAL VS MENSIK
Djokovic was mum on his eye problem that slowed him down in his MIami Open final against Mensik on Sunday.
Furthermore, the 37-year-old Serbian world No.5 appeared to have swellng around his right eye.
Moreover, he opted not to dwell on his eye problem.
He doesn’t want to be accused of making excuses after his 7-6(4), 7-6(4) loss to Mensik.
“I really prefer not to talk about – there is quite a few things, but I prefer not to… just congratulate him. That’s it,” the Serbian said.
“I don’t want to sound like I’m giving excuses here for my loss,” he added.
SERBIAN ‘HAPPIER TO LOSE’ TO MENSIK DESPITE MISSING OUT 100TH ATP TITLE
The Serbian clarified on Monday that he’s one of those players who hates to lose, but admitted he was “happier to lose” to a player like Mensik.
Moreover, Djokovic described Mensik as having “an incredible” serve.
Furthermore, the 24-time Grand Slam winner believes the teenager has “a complete game.”
“I have seen him play when he was 15 or 16 and invited him, we had some training blocks together,” Djokovic said.
“He was training at my club in Belgrade, and to see his development and evolution is really great, amazing,” he added.
CLAY SEASON, FRENCH OPEN AWAITS ‘NOLE’
Djokovic thus ended his hardcourt season on a whimper but is looking forward to the clay season.
Furthermore, the Serbian can take solace that he had won 20 career titles on clay.
Moreover, Djokovic can use the momentum and warmth he received from the crowd in South Florida after the Miami Open.
“But Miami, as I said on the court, really brought me a lot of joy and really good sensations on and off the court,” the Serbian said.
“I was welcomed very nicely by people and supported. Incredible again tonight, great support from the stadium in the match,” he added.
