Doctors release update on Edoardo Bove after Fiorentina star collapsed

Doctors have updated Edoardo Bove after the Fiorentina midfielder collapsed during the clash against Inter Milan on Sunday.

According to the Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bove regained consciousness after arriving at the Careggi hospital in Florence, and doctors assured him his ‘life was not in danger.’

What happened to Bove?

The home-side midfielder went down untouched and was quickly transported to the nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the game between Inter and Fiorentina was abandoned, and the scene was full of tears and fears after Bove’s collapse.

Players and staff formed a wall around Bove while medical staff tended to him. In harrowing scenes, several players from both sides were seen crying.

Bove was rushed off the pitch in an ambulance at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The 22-year-old player went down untouched in the 16th minute, with referee Daniele Doveri stopping the game to allow him to receive treatment.

Statement from Fiorentina and doctor’s update

Fiorentina released a statement detailing how Bove was ‘currently under pharmacological sedation and hospitalized in intensive care.’

The club said, ‘the first cardiological and neurological tests carried out have excluded acute damage to the central nervous and cardio-respiratory systems.’ Now, doctors have provided an update on his health.

La Gazzetta dello Sport also revealed that Bove’s parents and girlfriend were all in attendance that night, and they later traveled to the hospital to visit the Fiorentina star.

They reported that the father, Giovanni, and girlfriend, Martina, attended the hospital immediately. Meanwhile, his mother, Tanya, collapsed inside the stadium after the incident. 

After regaining consciousness, she later traveled to the hospital along with the mayor of Florence, Sara Funaro. 

Following the incident, Fiorentina’s full statement read: ‘Fiorentina and the Commisso family thank Viola fans, the clubs, fans, and the world of football and sport for the support shown towards Edoardo Bove and his loved ones.’

Latest update on Bove

According the latest update from Fabrizio Romano, there is positive news for Edoardo Bove as the night went well and Fiorentina’s player was extubated — after almost 13 hours. Edoardo is awake, conscious as he answers questions.

@repubblica reports sources confirming that there’s no brain or heart damage for the player.
