GREEN SLAMS PISTONS AFTER WILLIAMS FIRED IN JUST ONE SEASON

Golden State Warriors’ veteran Green slammed the Pistons after Williams was fired after just one season.

He would later question the Pistons’ thinking.

Detroit signed Williams with a six-year USD78.5 million contract in the 2023-24 season.

Moreover, Detroit owned the NBA’s worst record (14-68) in Williams’ first year with the team which led to his departure.

“They (Pistons) hired him for an all-time contract in NBA history and fired him the next year,” he said.

“They didn’t even give him a chance to actually build what they thought could build when they hired him for six years,” he added.

‘CULTURE ISN’T BUILT OVERNIGHT,’ DRAYMOND REMINDS PISTONS

Green then made a reminder about the Pistons.

“Culture isn’t built overnight. You need time to instill culture,” Green said.

“You sign someone to a six-year contract, you can’t possibly think that in year one, everything will change,” he added.

Furthermore, the host of “The Draymond Green Show” podcast on Sunday took a jab at the Pistons.

Additionally, Green would congratulate Williams for what the Pistons did to him.

“Congratulations to Monty Williams on getting fired by the Detroit Pistons after just one season,” Green said.

Interestingly, the Warriors’ forward said Williams will still “pull in” USD65 million from the Pistons while not coaching the team.

“How crazy is that?” he asked.

BORREGO, ATKINSON LINKED AS POSSIBLE WILLIAMS’ REPLACEMENT AT DETROIT

Meanwhile, several former and current coaches and assistant coaches have been linked as possible replacements for Williams at Detroit.

Among them, New Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego or Golden State’s assistant Kenny Atkinson loom as someone headed for the Pistons.

Furthermore, Borrego is connected to new Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon, who came in from New Orleans.

Langdon may want to take a closer look at Borrego, who won 45% pf his games as a head coach (148-183).

However, Borrego is also getting strong consideration from the Cleveland Cavaliers along with Atkinson, according to NBA Insider Marc Stein.

If Cleveland picks Borrego, Detroit may take in Atkinson, and vice-versa, as per multiple reports.
