EALA’S FEARLESS MINDSET KEYS STUNNING UPSET OF SWIATEK TO REACH LAST FOUR

Eala’s fearless mindset was the key in her 6-2, 7-5, upset victory over Swiatek.

Furthermore, the 19-year-old Filipino world No.140 recalled her journey as a 12-year-old who attended the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain.

Moreover, Eala employed a strategy of staying close to the baseline, uncomplicated strokes, attacking second serves.

“My game plan was to stick to what I know and run. Take it early, and not to be afraid,” the Filipina sensation said.

“Not to be afraid to miss. It’s normal that I would miss some,” she added.

Meanwhile, Eala became the second player to reach the semifinals after Jasmine Paolini, a  6-3, 6-2 winner over Magda Linette of Poland.

FILIPINO WILD CARD OUT TO ‘MAKE A DIFFERENCE’ BACK HOME

The Filipino wild card entry does not forget her roots despite living six years in Mallorca to train at retired legend Nadal’s academy.

Moreover, she became the first player from the Philippines to reach this far at a WTA tournament.

Furthermore, Eala became the third wild card to advance to the last four in Miami after Justine Henin in 2010 and Victoria Azarenka in 2018.

“I really tried to soak it all in, because this has never happened to me before,” Eala said.

“That’s the only thing I can do to give back to my country is to help inspire, to inspire change and positive change,” she added.

FILS SHARES SPOTLIGHT IN WIN OVER ZVEREV

Arthur Fils shared the spotlight with Eala after he upset Zverev, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in a match that was delayed by rain.

Furthermore, the French No.17 seed shook up the men’s singles draw.

Moreover, the 20-year-old Fils rallied to win the next two matches.

This after he received treatment on his back in the first set.

Fils thus followed up his big win over American Frances Tiafoe in the third round.

He will next take on Jakub Mensik in the men’s singles quarterfinals on Thursday.
