Esports officially added in Asian Youth Games; ESFI lauds move

ESPORTS OFFICIALLY ADDED AS MEDAL SPORT IN BAHRAIN ASIAN YOUTH GAMES
Esports was officially added as a medal sports when this year’s Bahrain Asian Youth Games unfolds later this year.
Furthermore, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) formally made the announcement for the third edition of the Games.
Moreover, eSports is included among the 20 other sports disciplines to be participated by some 45 member countries.
The Asian Youth Games will feature young athletes whose ages range from 14 to 17 years old.
Incidentally, the announcement came after reports said that the global esports market is expected to exceed USD1.5 billion by 2023.
ESFI LAUDS OCA ANNONCEMENT, SAYS DECISION WILL BOOST ESPORTS’ GROWTH
Moreover the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) lauded the OCA’s announcement, saying that the decision will boost esports’ growth worldwide.
Furthermore, ESFI director ad Asian Esports Federation vice-president Lokesh Suji is convinced that the announcement wwill fasttrack its grassroots development and talent scouting.
Suji welcomes the recognition of esports as a “competitive disciplie.
“The Asian Youth Games is another prestigious platform which has now recognized Esports
as a competitive discipline, the ESFI official said.
“With Esports already being part of Asian Games as a medal sport, this move will pave the way for greater opportunities and support for grassroots and talent identification of esports athlete(s),” he added.
INDIA EXPECTED TO BE LEADERS IN GLOBAL ESPORTS EVENTS
Furthermore, India is expected to be among the leaders in promoting global esports events to a wider market.
Moreover, India’s League of Legends team placed fifth in the 2022 Asian Games.
Additionally, the country also took a silver medal in Tekken 8 at the BRICS Esports Championship.
In eFootball, India won the bronze medal iat the Asian Esports Games 2024.
Aside from the Asian Youth Games and the Asian Games, esports will also be featured in the Asian Indoor Games and the inaugural Olympic Esports Games later this year.
