ESPORTS WORLD CUP 2025 LURES TOP TOP INDIAN CHESS GMS IN NIHAL, ARAVINDH
The Esports World Cup 2025 lures two of India’s top chess grandmasters (GMs) in Nihal Sarin and Aravindh Chithambaram.
Furthermore, Indian esports organization S8UL made the announcement on Sunday.
Moreover India is out to make a big splash in the competition set in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The EWC 2025 marks the debut of chess as part of its competitive events.
Organizers cap the event’s total prize pool to USD1.5 million.
Additionally, Norwegian GM Magnus Carlseen – currently the world No.1 – has been taped as the chess event’s Global Ambassador.
CHESS PRODIGY NIHAL BRINGS YOUTH, READY TO ‘TAKE THE GAME’ TO ‘BROADER AUDIENCE’
Nihal is ready to “take the game” to a “broader audience.”
Moreover, the 20-year-old chess prodigy burst into the spotlight.
Furthermore, he claimed the World Youth Chess Championship U-10 category in Durban when he was six years old.
Nihal also went on to finish as runner-up in the Chess.com Global Championship in 2022.
He is currently No.8 in India and world No.40 overall, with a FIDE ranking of 2687.
“I look forward to this opportunity to take the game I love to a much broader audience and inspire more young minds to pick it up,” Nihal said.

ARAVINDH BRINGS MIX OF YOUTH, EXPERIENCE FOR INDIA
Aravindh brings a mix of youth and experience for India at the EWC 2025.
Furthermore, the 25-year-old world No.11 became the first Indian to win all formats (classical, rapid, and blitz) in the Indian Open.
Moreover, Aravindh hopes to “make my country proud” as he makes his EWC 2025 debut.
“The fact that a mainstream esports organisation is investing in chess players shows the growing recognition of chess as both a competitive and spectator sport in the digital space,” the Madurai native said.
“It feels great to be part of this new wave, and I hope to make my country proud on the global stage,” he added.
