Bellingham carries England to a great EURO 2024 start

Bellingham, 20, charged into the box and connected with Bukayo Saka’s deflected cross, resulting in a header in the 13th minute.

Fittingly enough, the English fans began singing The Beatles iconic hit ’ “Hey Jude,” celebrating the early lead.

Bellingham, who had just completed a prolific first season with Real Madrid, scored his first-ever goal in the European Championship.

However, Serbia began to apply pressure on the Three Lions’ defense after the break.

England captain Harry Kane nearly gave England its second goal with a 77th minute header but Serbia Goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic made a fantastic save off the top crossbar.

Serbia striker Dusan Vlahovic nearly scored an equalizer, but Jordan Pickford came with a late save.

‘The team is still coming together’

England coach Gareth Southgate said his squad are still in the process of building a cohesive unit throughout the tournament.

“This team is still coming together,” Southgate said. “Everyone is expecting us to waltz through, but there is a lot of hard work ahead. We’re short of certain things. We’re finding best possible solutions.

“We’ve had a very complicated run-in to all of this [due to injuries], but the spirit of the group was there for everybody to see tonight and we’ll definitely grow from that.
