BELLINGHAM, KANE LIFT ENGLAND PAST SLOVENIA TO REACH LAST EIGHT

Bellingham and Kane delivered clutch goals to lift England past Slovakia in their Euro 2024 last-16 match at Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The 21-year-old Bellingham delivered a stoppage-time bicycle kick, while Kane scored on a header to carry England into the next round.

Ivan Schranze opened the scoring for Slovakia in the 25 minute as they looked good for a king-size upset.

However, Bellingham converted his impressive overhead kick in the fifth of six added minutes to tie the match and send it to extra time.

Moreover, Kane completed his seventh goal in his last seven knockout tournaments to keep England’s title hopes alive.

The win enabled the Three Lions into a quarterfinal matchup against Switzerland, a 2-0 winner over holders Italy on Saturday, in Dusseldorf.

BELLINGHAM SAYS CLUTCH GOAL ‘ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF MY CAREER’

Furthermore, Bellingham described his clutch goal as “one of the most important moments of my career.”

“I think it was 30 or 20 seconds until we were out of the European Championship,” Bellingham said when they trailed prior to his shot.

“It’s hard to deny that it was one of the most important moments of my career so far,” he added.

England manager Gareth Southgate described Bellingham’s world as “different to pretty much every other 21-year-old in the world.”

“What he can provide are these moments where he grabs things by the scruff of the neck and his character and his personality creates moments that can change a big game,” Southgate said.

SLOVAKIA COACH CALZONA DESCRIBED BELLINGHAM AS ‘EUR100-MILLION’ MAN

Moreover, Slovakia coach Francesco Calzona described Bellingham as a “EUR-100-million” man after the Real Madrid midfielder’s spectacular goal.

“They scored a goal from a player who is valued at EUR100 million. This was a team worth 1.5 billion (euros),” Calzona said.

“You concede just half a meter and you will get punished,” he added.

Nonetheless, Slovakia completed an impressive run towards the last 16 after they defeated No.3 Belgium in the group stage.

Schranze’s goal raised Slovakia’s hopes of pulling off another upset, this time against the No.5 ranked team in the world.

But they fell short to prevent Bellingham and Kane from letting England play for another day.
