Belgium scores first EURO 2024 win over Romania

Belgium were under pressure in Group E after dropping their opening game to Slovakia.

This time, the Red Devils entered the game with an outstanding attacking display.

A goal from Youri Tieleman’s low drive in the first 73 seconds of the match put Belgium on a pedestal.

Romelu Lukaku’s third goal got ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee in the tournament once again after it was deemed as offside from De Bruyne’s perfect pass.

However, the Manchester City midfielder made sure to seal the deal for Belgium, as he converted from close range in the 79th minute.

Group E in deadlock

With Belgium’s win, all four teams in Group E have three points.

For the first time in Euro history, all four teams in a group are on equal points after two rounds.

The final outcomes are now available on the final Group E matches on Wednesday when Belgium plays Ukraine and Slovakia faces Romania.

EURO 2024 HIGHLIGHTS

“We’re relieved”

Belgium coach Domenicon Tedesco was satisfied with his team’s performance after their sluggish start against Slovakia.

“We’re relieved we won the game, and we missed one or two chances and I’m not happy about that,” Tedesco said. “It would be great if we could decide the game earlier on.”

“It’s a pity. If you see the quantity and quality of chances in both games — now having scored two goals out of these two games, it’s less [than they should have]. It’s important to get the three points but scoring four or five goals tonight was possible.”
