De Bruyne calls journalist ‘stupid’
Tancredi Palmeri, who works for PortItalia as a correspondent, conducted a postmatch interview with the Manchester City midfielder.
Palmeri asked: “Why didn’t Belgium’s golden generation win anything?”
De Bruyne, still upset over their Round-of-16 loss to France, responded with a rhetorical question of his own.
“And you say that France, England, Spain, and Germany don’t have golden generations?” De Bruyne said, before turning his back to the journalist and adding, “stupid.”
Palmeri did not appreciate De Bruyne’s gesture during the news conference, even calling the 33-year-old a “spoiled brat.”
“Ahah, De Bruyne just called me stupid,” the Italian journalist wrote on his X account.
“Hey Kevin, a little memo for you: the golden generation you mentioned of France, England, Germany, and Spain all REACHED A FINAL! Usual footballer who wants only questions telling him how good they are. Spoiled brat.”
“Too early” to make a decision
The “golden generation” of Belgium player, including De Bruyne, made the semifinal of the 2018 World Cup.
Since then, Belgium has failed to replicate their best World Cup finish and has yet to reach the final in any major tournament.
When asked if he had played his last fixture with the national team, De Bruyne said he would make the decision in the near future.
“It’s too early to answer,” he said.
“Let me process this loss. It’s a been a very long season. I need to rest my body. I will make my decision after the summer.”
