SHAW ‘WILL BE BACK’ FOR ENGLAND AFTER HAMSTRING INJURY RECOVERY
The 28-year-old Shaw “will be back” to play for England against Slovakia as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Furthermore, the Manchester United left-back has not seen action since February 18.
Moreover, England can get a boost from Shaw, who is the team’s only specialist at left-back.
Interestingly, the 5-foot-10 standout was missed by England in the Euro 2024 group stages.
Manager Gareth Southgate had to use Kieran Trippier out of position on the left of the back four.
SOUTHGATE CITES NEED FOR ‘TEAM-FIRST’ APPROACH FOR ENGLAND VS SLOVAKIA
Furthermore, Southgate cited the need to embrace a “team-first” approach for England against Slovakia.
“It’s about the team. We have to play as a team at all times and some days the space will be where there is more opportunity for our wingers,” the England manager said.
“Our wingers could show what they could do. It was a little bit harder to play the middle,” he added.
Southgate praised key players Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Cole Palmer for providing a “good impact” on his team during the group stage.
“For everyone else, you have to focus on individuals but for me, it is about the team functioning and we were closer to where we want to be,” the manager said.
SOUTHGATE TO TALK TO JUDE BELLINGHAM ON STRUGGLES AGAINST SLOVENIA, DENMARK
Moreover, Southgate is set to talk to midfielder Jude Bellingham, who struggled in England’s last two matches.
Bellingham had an impressive performance by scoring a goal in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia in their opening match.
However, the Real Madrid midfielder struggled in England’s matches against Slovenia and Denmark, something Southgate hopes to address.
“I will have those messages with him (Bellingham) rather than plaster them over the papers,” Southgate said.
Interestingly, England remains the betting favorite to win Euro 2024 despite its odds shortening slightly from +350 to +325, ESPN reported.
