Mbappe excited to face his hero Ronaldo
It is no secret that the France captain is a huge Ronaldo fan, even posting a picture of him meeting his boyhood idol in 2012 when he announced his signing with Real Madrid.
Mbappe also shared that he and the Al Nassr forward remain in touch.
“It’s an honour to play against him, everyone knows the admiration I have for the player. We are in contact. He asks me about what’s going on in my life and he gives me tips and it’s an honour for me, especially when you think about what he’s done for the footballing world,” Mbappe said at a news conference ahead of the game in Hamburg.
“We have to appreciate who he is and what he has done — he is a unique player. His CV speaks for itself.”
France have yet to score from open play, with the team’s other two goals being own-goals.
Nonetheless, Mbappe said he is focused on beating the 2016 EURO champions.
“So total respect for him but I hope that tomorrow he will be not as happy because I hope that it’ll be us going to the semi-finals,” he said.
Only one Ronaldo
Mbappe will have a chance to etch a name for himself in Real Madrid, just like Ronaldo did in Bernabeu.
When asked if the 25-year-old wants to match Ronaldo;s accomplishment he said: “There is only one of him.”
“Me, I just want to follow my own route.
“I hope I will write a great story at Madrid but it will be different.”
