Netherlands eliminates Romania in EURO 2024
Romania pressed the Dutch in the first 10 minutes of the match, even giving them a scare when Dennis Man sent a shot just over.
However, the Netherlands regained their form as Liverpool’s Gakpo fired into the bottom corner to score his third goal in the tournament.
Gakpo then set up substitute Malen for an easy tap-in in the 83rd minute, ensuring that Romania wouldn’t stand a chance.
Malen put the finishing touch on the game, notching his second goal in stoppage time.

A statement game for Netherlands
It was a statement game for the Oranje, who had been criticized for their 3-2 defeat to Austria in their group game.
With the win, Netherlands advances to the European Championship quarters for the first time since 2008.
They will next face Turkey on Tuesday in Berlin.
Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman noted that his squad had clicked at the right time.
“I thought there were a lot of good things we did. The team realised that the last game was really bad in all aspects and so they have given out a strong message,” he said.
“We played well in the whole game, except the first 10 minutes when there was a lot of pressure.”
“We had analysed Romania well. Belgium showed us there was a lot of space to exploit [against Romania]. But it took a long time before we got the second goal.
“But I wasn’t scared they’d equalise because we defended so well. I though Xavi Simons was our best player too, he drove the team forward and was nice and aggressive.”
