STARMER HINTS OF BANK HOLIDAY IF ENGLAND BEATS SPAIN IN EURO 2024 FINAL

Starmer hinted a bank holiday should be held if England beats Spain in the 2024 European Championship final.

Furthermore, the titanic matchup at the Olympiastadion Berlin in Germany should be marked with a celebration, the prime minister said.

“We just want to mark it in some way. The most important thing is getting over the line on Sunday,” Starmer told ITV News as reported by Sky Sports.

“If we win on Sunday, we should get the chance to celebrate it properly with an extra bank holiday, granted in the name of the England team,” he added.

Moreover, the prime minister also called for a bank holiday when England reached the EURO 2020 final.

Interestingly, he also made the call at the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

PM ‘DOESNT WANT TO JINX’ ENGLAND’S CHANCES AFTER TWO FAILED OPPORTUNITIES

Furthermore, the prime minister “doesn’t want to jinx” England’s chances this time after two failed opportunities.

After the EURO 2020 failure, the Lionesses also lost the Women’s World Cup final to, incidentally, Spain.

Nonetheless, England’s conservative government at the time trumped Starmer’s request last year before the Lionesses lost.

This time, the prime minister has the support of Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey regarding a possible bank holiday.

“The Three Lions are playing their first-ever final on foreign soil, and if they bring it home, the government should bring some a bank holiday to celebrate,” Davey said.

“England deserves the chance to celebrate a once-in-a-generation event. Who knows, we might even get decent weather,” he added.
