PORTUGAL THUMPS TURKEY BEHIND SILVA, AKAYDIN OWN GOAL, FERNANDES

Portugal dropped Turkey, 3-0, behind goals from Bernardo Silva, a Samet Akaydin own goal, and Bruno Fernandes in an EURO 2024 Group F match.

Silva’s strike in the 21st minute opened the scoring for the match before Akaydin had a back-pass that rolled to the side of his goalkeeper and into the net seven minutes later.

Furthermore, Ronaldo sacrificed personal glory for another goal by flicking a pass across the face of the six-yard box to Fernandes.

Fernandes did not disappoint by hitting a tap-in in the 55th minute to deliver Portgual’s coup de grace at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, Germany.

Interestingly, the win enabled Portugal to ensure first place in Group F and advance into the knockout stages.

RONALDO IN SELFIE CHAOS IN FIELD, WORRIES MARTINEZ

Ronaldo may not have scored a goal in his 27th appearance at the Euros but he was the center of a selfie chaos in the field.

Furthermore, the former Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus striker had a phone selfie with a boy inside the field in the 69th minute before security caught up with the kid.

Moreover, two more fans tried to follow the boy’s lead and rushed to Ronaldo before security put them away.

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez expressed concern about the incidents involving Ronaldo.

“It’s a concern because today we were lucky that the intentions of the fans were good,” the coach said.

“If those intentions are wrong, the players are exposed. I don’t think that should happen on the football pitch,” he added.

TURKEY COACH MONTELLA IN SPOTLIGHT AFTER BRUTAL LOSS

The result placed Turkey coach Vincenco Montella in the spotlight after his team’s brutal loss.

Montella has been under security by Turkish media for his tactics after the match.

“We were punished harshly tonight,” the coach said.

Furthermore, Turkey will need a draw against the Czech Republic on Wednesday to boost its chances to advance.

Turkey was coming off a 3-1 victory over Georgia in its first match.

Moreover, Akaydin’s error was the sixth own goal already at the Euros.

Akaydin was later taken off an injury to cap his team’s sorry performance.
