Spain beats Georgia to reach EURO 2024 quarterfinals
Georgia entered the matchup filled with momentum after advancing in the Round-of-16 by beating Portugal.
In fact, the 74th-ranked team pulled out a stunner in the 18th minute after Spain defender Robin le Normand poked Otar Kakabadze’s bouncing cross into his own net.
However, Georgia’s celebration only lasted 21 minutes, as Manchester City’s Pedri converted a goal into the bottom corner.
La Roja never looked back in the second half, with Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, and Dani Olmo effectively sealing the deal for the three-time Euro champions.
‘We were calm’
Spain coach Luis De la Fuente lauded his squad for delivering under pressure, especially after the break.
“It’s normal that after the goal, an own goal, there were some nervous minutes,” said De la Fuente.
“But we managed to wrestle control back and the players read the game brilliantly. We were calm at half-time, there was no anxiety and the players knew what was needed.”
