Vinicius Jr. was named the Best FIFA Men’s Player for the first time, and the support of his fellow professionals and football fans around the globe allowed him to top the podium ahead of his nearest challenger, Rodri. This is a sweet revenge for the Brazilian winger after his surprising defeat at Rodri at the Ballon d’Or 2024, which almost everybody was convinced that Vini would be the righteous winner.

Who did Messi and other team captains vote for in the top three of the FIFA The Best Men’s Player?
The Brazil and Real Madrid man had the backing of compatriots Danilo and Dorival Junior as their first choice. Surprisingly, Argentina skipper Lionel Messi did not vote for Rodri or Vinicius Jr, but the former Barcelona superstar put Lamine Yamal’s name first.
Messi had the Los Blancos winner in third place behind Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe. Meanwhile, current Atletico Madrid goalkeeper and Slovakia team captain Jan Oblak did not even vote for Vini. He put Rodri as his first vote, Dani Carvajal for the second and third, and Toni Kroos for the second and third.
Portugal team captain and Man City star Bernardo Silva voted for his club teammate Rodri, then Vinicius, and Erling Haaland.
