FULHAM FORGE TRANSFER DEAL TO LAND SMITH-ROWE AWAY FROM ARSENAL

Furthermore, Fulham forge the transfer deal to acquire Smith-Rowe away from Arsenal worth £34 million (USD43.7 million), sources told ESPN.

The 23-year-old is coming off an 18-goal production and 13 assists in 115 total appearances for Arsenal since 2018.

Moreover, Smith-Rowe started for Arsenal in September 2018 in the Europa League against Vorskla Poltava through the club’s academy.

He would later establish himself as a first-team member in 2020 after loans to Huddersfield and RB Leipzig.

Additionally, £27 million of the transfer deal goes to Arsenal as a fixed fee, while £7 million were listed as add-ons.

Incidentally, Smith-Rowe has three England caps to his name, including the last in 2022.

LACK OF PLAYING TIME, INJURIES LED TO SMITH-ROWE EXIT UNDER ARTETA ROTATION

Moreover, the lack of playing time and injuries led to an impending Smith-Rowe exit from manager Mikel Arteta’s rotation at Arsenal.

Smith-Rowe made just 13 appearances for Arteta last season as he struggled for minutes.

Furthermore, the midfielder was supposed to make one final appearance for Arsenal during their friendly against Bournemouth in Los Angeles last Wednesday.

However, Smith-Rowe wasn’t included as one of the 10 substitutes used by Arteta throughout the match.

Arsenal won 5-4 on penalties after the match initially ended 1-1.

“Things are happening in the background and we decide the best thing to do was leave him (Smith-Rowe) out,” the Gunners’ manager admitted.

SMITH-ROWE DEAL ENABLES ARSENAL TO PUSH THROUGH WITH CALAFIORI AGREEMENT

Furthermore, the Smith-Rowe deal enabled Arsenal to push through with their plan to acquire Italian Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

The Gunners are working on a transfer deal worth £33.6 million – with £4.2 million in add-ons and a sell-on clause to land the skilled defender.

Moreover, half of that transfer fee will go to Basel with the rest going to Italy.

On the other hand, Calafiori prefers to play for Arsenal over other potential destinations.

However, Basel and Bologna are still working out the terms that would send the 22-year-old Italian to the Gunners.

Once Calafiori officially lands with Arsenal, Arteta will work him on the rotation that will pit the Italian for minutes with Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Bukayo Saka.
