Germany beat Denmark to reach Euro 2024 quarterfinals
Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz scored in the second half of the Euro 2024’s Round of 16 clash as host Germany edged Denmark to reach the quarterfinals.

It was a tough first half for the host, not only for a resilient Denmark but also for a spectacular storm that interrupted the game. Lightning lit up the sky, and the pitch was soaked by hail, and heavy rain caused the referee to suspend the game.

VAR made notable calls, ruling out Nico Schlotterbeck’s early header. Denmark were denied in the second half when Joachim Andersen’s strike was chalked off as team-mate Thomas Delaney was flagged just offside.
The Danes scored another disallowed goal when referee Michael Oliver was called to the pitchside monitor and awarded a penalty for handball by the luckless Andersen.
In the second half, Denmark was denied an equalizer when Delaney was offside by a toe. Then, a penalty decision led to the breakthrough, as David Raum’s cross touched Andersen’s outstretched arm.
Germany were celebrating that VAR call when referee Michael Oliver was called to the pitchside monitor and awarded a penalty for handball by the luckless Andersen.
Arsenal’s ace Havertz scored a cold and calm spot-kick to bring the joy to the home fans.
When the game reached the last 20 minutes, young talent Musiala curved a sublime ball into the far corner as he nailed the game for Germany.
Germany is now the highest-scoring team in the tournament, with 10 goals, and they should have boosted that tally even further here.

They will next play the winner of Sunday’s game between Spain, who have looked one of the best sides so far, and surprise package Georgia. The quarterfinal is scheduled for Friday, 5 July.
