GILL WELCOMES ‘COMMUNICATION WITH THE PLAYERS’ AFTER SELECTORS PICKED HIM

Gill welcomes “communication with the players” after selectors picked him for the position vacated by the retired Rohit Sharma.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old opening batter was named to the position by chief selector Ajit Agarkar less than two weeks ago.

Moreover, Gill cited the need for effective communication to ensure “players feel secure” with their roles with the India squad.

“I think your personal style is more visible to the people,” the new captain said.

“If you are a captain of any team or a leader of any team, if your players feel very secure, only then they can give their 100%,” he added.

NEW SKIPPER PAYS TRIBUTE TO SHARMA, ‘OVERWHELMED’ WITH LEADERSHIP ROLE

Moreover, the new skipper paid tribute to his predecessor Sharma, even as he was “overwhelmed” with his leadership role.

Furthermore, he described Sharma as “very clear with his communication” with his teammates.

Additionally, Gill welcomed reporters in Mumbai on Thursday.

“I was overwhelmed to learn that I had been presented with the opportunity to lead India,” Sharma said.

“So as a leader, as a captain, you definitely want to be able to lead by example, by your performance and any match that you play,” he added.

PLAYING ENGLAND THAT THRIVES ON ‘BAZBALL’ A ‘GREAT CHALLENGE,’ SAYS GILL

Playing an England squad that thrives on an aggressible “Bazball” style of play will be “a great challenge” for India, Gill said.

Furthermore, the new skipper is aware that “Bazball” enabled England to race to a score like 427 for 6 in just over 80 overs.

Moreover, he cited England’s Test against New Zealand in early December.

“Yes, they play a certain way. I think we saw that when they came to India as well,” Gill said.

” If we are very proactive with our execution and if we are proactive with our plans, I think it would put them under pressure immensely,” he added.
