GUNDONGAN TO RE-SIGN WITH CITY AFTER SPENDING A YEAR WITH BARCELONA
Expect Gundongan to re-sign with City after spending a year with Barcelona in La Liga, the source told ESPN.
Furthermore, the 33-year-old German midfielder is determined to return to the Premier League club where he played for seven seasons.
Moreover, Gundongan initially signed for City on June 2, 2016, on a four-year contract.
He would later agree to a four-year extension in August 2019 before moving to Spain with Barcelona last year.
Incidentally, the 5-foot-11 Gelsenkirchen native is expected to make an official announcement after his trip to Manchester on Wednesday.
GERMAN MIDFIELDER CHOSE CITY REUNION OVER SAUDI ARABIA TRANSFER
Moreover, the German midfielder chose a reunion with City over a possible transfer to Saudi Arabia, where he is a subject of interest.
Furthermore, Al Nassr was interested in Gundongan.
However, the long-time German national team member chose the Premier League side after he had conversations with manager Pep Guardiola.
No fee will be involved in Gundongan’s return to City, the source assured.
Gundongan’s one-year stint with Barcelona will end through a mutual agreement between both sides, the source added.
DANI OLMO ARRIVAL ALLOWS BARCELONA TO LET GUNDONGAN RETURN TO CITY
Furthermore, the arrival of Dani Olmo from German side RB Leipzig has allowed Barcelona to let go of Gundongan.
Moreover, the German midfielder made 51 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side last season.
Gundongan hopes to have a more productive stint with City in his return after he made more than 300 appearances from 2016 to 2023.
He hopes to help City contend for a title after he won 12 major trophies during his initial stint with the Premier League club.
Incidentally, Gundongan left City on a free transfer to Barcelona after he declined other offers, including an interest from Arsenal.
