Furthermore, the Romanian former world No.1 was hoping to revive her career in Melbourne after she was handed a wildcard slot.

Moreover, Halep was forced to withdraw due to lingering knee and shoulder pain.

The Tennis Gazette reported that Halep is “afraid to push myself” further after “such a long break.”

“The knee injury I have is quite serious and difficult to recover from,” she told Golazo.

“I don’t know if I’m afraid to push myself, but when I feel the pain, it’s hard to play at my highest level,” she added.

‘RETIRING CROSSES MY MIND VERY OFTEN,’ ROMANIAN ADMITS

The 33-year-old Romanian admitted that “retiring crosses my mind very often” since she sustained the injury.

Moreover, Halep described advise she received to undergo surgery as a “complicated procedure.”

Furthermore, she hinted that “life moves forward” whether she finally decides to hang it up.

“The thought of retiring crosses my mind very often. I’ve reached an age where I have injuries that are hard to recover from,” Halep said.

“My knee won’t heal completely – I was advised to undergo surgery, but it’s a complicated procedure, and I don’t think I will go through with it,” she added.

‘FULFILLED AS A TENNIS PLAYER,’ SIMONA OUT TO ‘EXPLORE OTHER THINGS’

Furthermore, Halep say she is “fulfilled as a tennis player” as she is ready to “explore other things.”

Moreover, the current world No.883 takes pride with her two Grand Slams – the 2018 French Open and 2019 WImbledon.

Halep feels satisfied with her 24 World Tennis Association (WTA) Tour-level titles and reaching world No.1 in 2017.

“I worked hard for it, and I feel fulfilled as a tennis player. Now, I want to do something else, not just tennis,” the Romanian said.

“The first part of my life was all about tennis; now, I want to explore other things,” she added.
