Harry Kane continues his goalscoring streak at Bundesliga
Kane’s latest goal came from the penalty spot during Bayern Munich’s dominant 5-0 victory over Hoffenheim in Round 17 of the Bundesliga. The match saw Bayern return to action after a three-week winter break, continuing their winning momentum following a narrow 1-0 victory against Gladbach on January 11, also decided by a Kane penalty.
In the 26th minute against Hoffenheim, VAR confirmed a handball by Kevin Akpoguma, awarding Bayern a penalty. Kane converted with a powerful shot to the left, sending goalkeeper Oliver Baumann the wrong way. This goal added to Kane’s tally of 16 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga this season, meaning he has been involved in 22 goals so far. Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Mohamed Salah (31) and Omar Marmoush (24) have contributed to more goals.
Remarkably, Kane has converted all 12 of his Bundesliga penalties and remains perfect in spot-kicks for club and country since the 2022 World Cup, scoring 27 consecutive penalties. For Bayern alone, he has netted 17 penalties in all competitions, including seven in the Bundesliga this season. Paul Breitner holds the record for most penalties in a single Bundesliga season with 10, set in the 1980/81 campaign for Bayern.
In their match against Hoffenheim, Bayern dominated with 65% possession, 25 shots, and 10 on target, compared to Hoffenheim’s five attempts and two on target. Besides Kane’s penalty, goals from Raphael Guerreiro, Serge Gnabry, and a Leroy Sané brace sealed an emphatic win.
The victory keeps Bayern firmly atop the Bundesliga table with 42 points, four points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen. The latter have been in red-hot form, with 10 consecutive wins across all competitions, including seven in the Bundesliga.
Bayern’s upcoming fixtures include a home clash with Wolfsburg on January 18 in Bundesliga Round 18, followed by a crucial Champions League group-stage visit to Feyenoord four days later.
