The Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler is expected to link up with the squad on April 14, but he will be unable to feature immediately.
What happened?
The first seven games of the IPL beginning in Ahmedabad on Friday is the number of games that Hazlewood is going to miss.
The Australian international cricketer was quoted as saying by The Age regarding his status:
“Everything is ticking along according to plan, so I’ll be heading over on the 14th (of April) depending on how the next two weeks go,”
“I probably won’t be quite ready to go right then, but (after) another week in India to touch things up skills wise I should be ready to go hopefully.
32-year-old Hazlewood, who is currently ranks no.2 in ODI, no.1 in T20I and no.12 in test in the ICC Men’s Player Rankings, will remain in Sydney having been sent back home after missing Australia’s four-match Test series in India.
His Achilles tendonitis had him suffered for two months, which came after he damaged his side in the first Test of Australia’s home summer in early December 2022 and missed the next three Test matches.
Hazlewood to be monitored post IPL 2023
Hazlewood’s fitness will be monitored closely given Australia have the World Test Championship final and the Ashes coming up immediately after the IPL ends on May 28.
Report from cricket.com.au revealed that he “remains hopeful” of turning out for Royal Challengers later in the tournament.
He last played for Australia in the third Test against South Africa in January
