INDIA, MALAYSIA READY TO POUNCE AS CHINA TO REST TOP STARS IN QINGDAO TOURNEY

Furthermore, India and Malaysia are ready to pounce on the opportunity as China opted to rest its top stars for the tournament in Qingdao this month.

Moreover, the hosts will only field world No.186 Hu Zhe An and No.169 Zhu Cuan Chen in the men’s singles in Qingdao.

Additionally, only women’s doubles champions Chen Qing Chen and Ji Yi Fan are the notable names for the hosts’ lineup.

The tournament unfolds from February 11-16.

Incidentally, the Qingdao event comes as a relief for shuttlers who have been playing non-stop in three tournaments from last month.

This prompted Danish former world No.1 Viktor Axelsen to call for longer tournament duration and more rest days in beteen tournaments.

SINDHU, SEN TO LEAD INDIA CHARGE IN QINGDAO

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen headline India’s charge in Qingdao as part of the team’s 14-player lineup.

Moreover, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu will be joined by Malvika Bansod in the women’s singles category.

Furthermore, Sen will have HS Prannoy as a friendly rival in the men’s singles division.

Badminton Association of India secretary general Sanjay Mishra said his team will go all out and win titles in Qingdao.

“We performed well by winning the bronze medal two years ago ut this year, our goal is to reach the finals,” Mishra said.

“From there, anything is possible, and we will give it our all,” he added.

BAM LIKES MALAYSIA’S CHANCES; COACH DESCRIBES QINGDAO TOURNEY S ‘OPEN COMPETITION’

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) likes Malaysia’s chances, with a coach describing the upcoming tournament as an “open competition.”

Furthermore, national coaching director Rexy Mainaky assured Malaysia will try to take advantage of an undermanned lineup from the hosts.

Moreover, the Malaysian shuttlers’ mix of youth and experience should provide them better results this time.

“This time every team in the top eight have the chance to win as China will not be at full strength,” Rexy said.

“We have a combination of experience and young players. For sure, we will fight to achieve the best result,” he added.

World No.27 Leong Jun Hao and No.53 Justin Hoh will be Malaysia’s bets in men’s singles.

Meanwhile, K. Leshanna (No.55) is their lone bet in women’s singles.
