Inglis was named as Australia’s interim T20I captain in the third ODI against Pakistan in Perth.
Furthermore, the 29-year-old wicket-keeper-batter was named for the position.
This came as key players Pat Cummins, Steven Smith, and Josh Hazlewood will be resting.
Moreover, following the selectors’ recommendations, a board approved Inglis’ appointment as Australia’s 14th T20I captain and 30th ODI captain.
Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head will also be out for Australia’s upcoming T20I Test series against Pakistan.
Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, and Josh Philippe were added to Australia’s lineup for the Perth ODI.
BAILEY PRAISES INGLIS, SAYS INTERIM CAPTAIN AN ‘INTEGRAL’ ODI, T20I TEAM MEMBER
Moreover, George Bailey praised the interim captain as an “integral” part of Australia’s ODI and T20I teams.
Furthermore, the chairman of selectors assured Inglis support from the squad’s senior players.
“Josh (Inglis) is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field,” Bailey said.
“Josh will receive great support from the likes of Matt Short and Adam Zampa, along with senior players including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis,” he added.
Incidentally, a selection panel tapped Inglis as captain of a Prime Minister’s XI squad in a first-class match against West Indies in November 2022.
ASSISTANT COACH TO LEAD AUSTRALIA’S NEW STAFF FOR T20I SERIES
Furthermore, an assistant coach will lead Australia’s new coaching staff for the team’s T20I series.
Moreover, Andre Borovec will be joined by former Australia batter Brad Hodge as an assistant coach and Matthew Wade as interim fielding and keeping coach.
The new staff was named after head coach Andrew McDonald, batting coach Michael Di Venuto, and bowling coach Daniel Vettori, who will take a break.
Additionally, Brad Hodge and Wade are still part of the ODI squad as consultants.
Hodge also has double duties as Australia’s T20I team as an assistant coach.
He toured with the T20 World Cup team as a coaching consultant.
