IOC CONFIRMS FIRST OLYMPIC ESPORTS GAMES IN SAUDI ARABIA IN 2027
The IOC confirms the first Olympic Esports Games will be held in Saudi Arabia in 20227.
Furthermore, the announcement came after the event was supposed to be staged later this year.
Moreover, IOC officials did not explain why the event was delayed.
The Esports World Cup was announced in December last year as a collaboration between the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) and Chess.com.
Interestingly, the Champions Chess Tour (CCT), a fast Chess.com tournament circuit, was announced as the main path for players who wish to qualify for the 2025 EWC.

The Olympics Esports Games, according to IOC president Thomas Bach, now has a “very clear roadmap.
Moreover, the Esports World Cup featured 22 different video games from Call of Duty: Warzone to Street Fighter.
Furthermore, Bach explained that the path leading to the first-ever Olympic Esports Games is becoming “a reality.”
“There is now a very clear roadmap to the historic first-ever Olympic Esports Games,” the IOC president said.
“With the Road to the Olympic Esports Games starting this year, the Games are becoming a reality.”
SAUDI ARABIA WELCOMES GATHERING OF ESPORTS ATHLETES IN GAMES, SAYS PRINCE
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia welcomes the gathering of Esports athletes around the world for the upcoming Games.
Moreover, Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal sees “real growth” and “new opportunities.”
He noted these qualities justify the staging for an Olympic event for Esports.
“Already, Saudi Arabia is looking forward to welcoming the world and playing in part to help the dreams of so many esports athletes come true,” the prince said.
“Just as we are seeing across all sdports in hte Kingdom, there is real growth and new opportunities to grasp as part of an exciting future for all,” he added.
Meanwhile, the IOC has yet to decide if shooter games will be allowed in the Esports Olympics program.
The IOC said a six-person panel will be co-chaired by veteran IOC member Ser Miang Ng and the prince – who is also the sports minister.
Additionally, the committee will determine which sports will be included in the program.
