As announced by the team on social media, Markram becomes the ninth captain to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL history.
Aiden Markram – A young prodigy who shot through the ranks
Aiden Markram was a flamboyant stroke-maker from an early age and rose to fame, who has now been named the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain for IPL 2023.
Markram recently led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title, where he also finished as the tournament’s third leading run-maker.
Williamson struggled and Markram stepped up
The New Zealand cricketer had a hard time hitting his peak as Sunrisers failed to make the playoffs last season finishing eighth.
32-year-old, who was one of the best batsman in the current era across all formats, missed the final league match last season for personal reason.
Markram was among the contenders for the leadership position that was left open since Williamson departed, as the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Agarwal were also considered.
It was believed that Markram was the final choice was majorly due to the batter’s excellence as Eastern Cape’s captain during SA20.
