The former Real Madrid and Manchester United boss was overexcited after Sofyan Amrabat’s last-gasp winner. This goal secured the three points and intensified the title race, putting pressure on league leaders and rivals Galatasaray.
However, the victory was overshadowed by Mourinho’s scathing criticism of officiating. He said,
“We play against a system. And to play against a system is the most difficult thing.”
His impassioned remarks, part of a lengthy eight-minute tirade, provided a glimpse into the Portuguese coach’s competitive fervor.
“Tonight, we faced a solid team, experienced a vibrant atmosphere, contended with VAR, and battled against a system. It was extremely challenging,” he added.
This passionate post-match commentary did not go unnoticed. The TFF issued a stern review of Mourinho’s statements, deeming them detrimental to the integrity of Turkish football and contrary to the principles of sportsmanship. The governing body’s stance on this matter was clear-his remarks not only tarnished the reputation of the TFF but also undermined the perceived impartiality of referees and match officials.
The TFF slapped Mourinho with a discretionary fine of 900,000 TL under Article 38/4-a of the FDT for Unsportsmanlike Statements.
In addition to the expensive financial penalty, Mourinho was also given a one-match suspension from the dressing room and touchline due to unsporting conduct directed towards opposing fans, with reports suggesting this additional fine to be around £1,300.
