Both Spoelstra and Lue were assistants to Kerr in Paris.

Spoelstra steered the Miami Heat to two titles in 2012 and 2013 and has coached the team to six NBA finals.

He collected a 750-527 (.587) record in 17 seasons as Heat head coach.

Lue helped James lead the Cavaliers to a title over Kerr’s Warriors in the 2016 NBA finals.

Kerr’s successor is necessary to give Team USA an early preparation for the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar and the 2028 LA Games.
