KOHLI, SHARMA ‘HAVE A LOT OF CRICKET IN THEM,’ SINGH ASSURES BASED ON FITNESS LEVEL

Furthermore, Kohli and Sharma “have a lot of cricket in them,” Singh assures based on their fitness level.

Moreover, Kohili is “probably the fittest guy in the team” who can keep up with youngsters, the retired Indian cricket legend and current commentator said.

“He (Kohli) is probably the fittest guy in the team. You ask any 19-year-old competing with Virat (on fitness). Virat will beat him,” Singh told Press Trust of India videos.

“Virat will beat him. He is that fit. I believe Virat and Rohit (Sharma) have a lot of cricket left in them and it is entirely up to them,” he added.

Kohli can still play “another five years.”

On the other hand, Sharma “can easily play for two more years” of international cricket, Singh said.

The 35-year-old Kohli and the 37-year-old Sharma have announced their retirement in the international Twenty20 International (T20I) format.

Both played for India in the recent 2024 T20 World Cup.

SINGHI CONVINCED INDIA MAY STILL NEED KOHLI, SHARMA IN TEST CRICKET

Moreover, Singh is convinced that India may still need Kohli and Sharma in the Test cricket format.

“Red ball cricket, you really need these two guys (Kohli and Sharma) to play a little bit more than what people are asking,” he said.

“You need experience in all formats whether it’s limited overs cricket and Test cricket,” he added.

Selectors should choose players based on performance, skill, and fitness, Singh noted.

“Selectors need to see that if someone is not performing well, they should be dropped, whether they are senior players or juniors,” Singh said.

“But as long as everyone is fit, they should be able to get selected in the team,” he added.

HARBHAJAN SAYS ‘YOUNGSTERS HAVE WAY MORE HUNGER THAN SENIORS’

Furthermore, Harbhajan says youngsters may have way more hunger than seniors.

He noted that younger players have yet to establish themselves in the sport.

“I always believe that youngsters have much more hunger than the seniors. If you play for 15 years your hunger a little bit comes down,” Singh said.

“Great to see Riyan Parag getting the opportunities and the way Yashavi Jaiswal is coming up,” he added.

Moreover, India is coming off a tough 0-2 loss to Sri Lanka in the One Day International (ODIs) format.

“It was one of those things. Sometimes you win it, sometimes you lose it. It’s sports after all,” Singh said.

“All teams go through these periods. You play well but you still don’t win. I will give credit to Sri Lanka. They played well,” he added.
