KOHLI, SHARMA KEPT BCCI A+ CENTRAL CONTRACTS DUE TO TECHNICALITY, SAYS OFFICIAL

Kohli, Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja kept their A+ bracket in the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) annual players’ contract list due to a technicality.

Furthermore, a BCCI official, who spoke on condition of anonimity addressed the issue through Press Trust of India.

Moreover, the two Indian superstar cricketers kept their status despite retiring in the T20 (Twenty20) format, the official noted.

He explained that the assessment year started from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024.

“Kohli, Rohit (Sharma) and (Ravindra) Jadeja played the T20 World Cup final in June, 2024 and hence at that time, they were all-format regulars,” the official was quoted by PTI as saying.

“Going by that technicality, they are supposed to be in A+ category,” he added.

IYER, ISHAN AMONG 34 CENTRALLY-CONTRACTED PLAYERS

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, meanwhile, were back in a 34-strong list of centrally-contracted players.

Furthermore, that list also included Jasprit Bumrah and Jadeja, who are in the highest-paid A+ category.

Moreover, Iyer and Kishan were previously dropped from the list last year due to bypassing domestic cricket in India.

The official also explained why Ishan and Iyet returned to their respective categories in the BCCI’s contract list.

“Similarly, Ishan (2 World Cup matches) and Shreyas played 15 ODIs and a handful Tests in the 2023-24 season and hence got their respective categories,” the official said.

Moreover, Sharma sparkled with an unbeaten 76-run knock against the Chennai Super Kings.

Additionally, Iyer was part of the B category, while Kishan returned in category C.
