LA2028 GAMES TO SHOWCASE LONG BEACH READY TO ‘COME OUT OF THE SHADOWS A BIT, SAYS MAYOR

Expect the LA2028 Games to showcase Long Beach, according to its mayor, as ready “to come out of the shadows a bit.”

Furthermore, Mayor Rex Richardson cited the need to promote Long Beach in hosting beach volleyball, water polo, sailing, and sports climbing.

Moreover, the mayor says Long Beach’s “great, iconic coastline” comes with its size.

“Long Beach is a great American city, and many folks may not know about it,” Richardson said.

“We’re larger than Miami. We’re larger than St Louis and New Orleans,” he added.

THE ‘LBC’ IS HOME TO BILLY JEAN KING, WESTBROOK

Long Beach, also known as the “LBC,” is home to retired tennis great Billy Jean King.

Moreover, the city is also home to 2012 Olympic gold medallist and NBA star Russell Westbrook of the Denver Nuggets.

Furthermore, music fans remember Long Beach as the LBC in songs mentioned by rap legend Snoop Dogg.

“We’re a top-40 city in the United States by population,” Richardson said.

“We have a great, iconic coastline… and the beautiful nine miles (14.4km) of California coast,” he added.

RICHARDSON SAYS LONG BEACH NO STRANGER TO HOSTING MAJOR SPORTS EVENTS

Richardson reminded fans that Long Beach is no stranger to hosting major sports events in the past.

Furthermore, the mayor cited the city previously staging the Long Beach Grand Prix in April.

Moreover, the city also hosted the 60th edition of the Congressional Cup sailing regatta off the Veteran Memorial Pier over the weekend.

“These are iconic, historic, world-class venues,” Richardson said.

“That’s the experience that we’ve put together and developed here in Long Beach, and we can’t wait to show it to the world,” he added.
