Yamal says “Barca is the club of my life”
The 17-year-old’s contract, which includes a €1 billion release clause, will expire in 2026.
Yamal previously mentioned that he is ready to commit his long-term future with Barcelona.
ESPN reported that there is an agreement to extend his contract with the club until at least 2030.
“I don’t know when [the contract will be signed], but I believe it will be soon,” Yamal said in an interview with CNN.
“At the end of the day, Barça is the club of my life. I hope to renew my contract with them and to be with them for as long as possible.”
He addied: “I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to play for Barça, and yes, I will renew my contract. I will.”
Barca’s rising star
Yamal joined Barca in 2014 and advanced through the academy.
The winger made history as the youngest player to ever represent the club, debuting at just 15 years old in 2023.
He has already made 72 appearances for Barca’s first team, scoring 13 goals, and is a regular under Hansi Flick.
In international competition, Yamal has earned 17 caps for his country and played a key role in Spain’s victory at the European Championship last summer.
The current LaLiga season is shaping up to be a race for the ages, with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Barca all involved in a tight three-way battle.
Yamal, who scored in Barca’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup semifinals on Wednesday, believes that Barca will claim the LaLiga trophy.
“Of course. No question,” he said.
“In the end, La Liga will be won against the teams we’ve previously lost to. I think it’s about focus. We’ve shown in the important moments that we are the best and we’ll continue to do so.”
