Barcelona, Liverpool and more clubs who see their legends depart this season 2022/23.

Barcelona – Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets

The Catalan giants said goodbye to the trio that have in total 40 years playing top football for the club, who are also the last generations that won the historic treble in 2014/15.

In November 2022, Pique announced his retirement and finally called his career after the 616th appearance for the club and the 769th senior game of his career.

The former Man United centre-back admitted that he was no longer a key player at the highest level.

After Pique, Blaugrana bid farewell to the pair Busquets and Alba, who played important roles to their first league title since 2019.

The 3-0 victory against Mallorca during La Liga 2022/23 Matchday 37 turned out to be a beautiful goodbye, not only to the Nou Camp stadiums, which will be closed until Novermber 2024, but also to Alba and Busquets.

The club’s captains said an emotional farewell to the Nou Camp as Barcelona players and were given a guard of honour by their teammates.

After 39 years at the club between them Alba and Busquets are set to leave Barcelona when their contracts come to an end at the conclusion of the season.

Real Betis – Joaquin

Over 400 appearances in 8 years with the seville-based club, the Spanish winger is a living statue, who confirmed his retirement in April 2023.

There were tears, of course, for the one of the longest-served players in European football.

The Spaniard has had two stints with the LaLiga outfit, initially playing there from 2000-2006 and then again from 2015 until the present day.

Joaquin has won two Copa Del Rey’s with the club, and has made 15 appearances in La Liga for Betis, contributing one assist, and will be looking to add to that in his final games.

Liverpool – James Milner and Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino and James Milner both said farewell to the Liverpool fans and it was emotional scene at Anfield for the pair who brought the titles back to the Merseyside club.

Firmino and Milner joined at the same time in 2015 and left in the Summer of 2023, when their contracts come to an end.

Bobby & Millie, like the Reds fan call them, are the two players with the most appearances under Jurgen Klopp and played an important roles in the club’s most successful period, with Champions League title and their first Premier League trophy in 30 years.
