Messi out with ankle ligament injury

Messi’s club, Inter Miami, confirmed the results of his MRI on Tuesday.

“After a medical evaluation, it has been determined that Leo Messi has suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle,” the club said in a statement.

“The captain’s availability will be determined by periodic assessments and the progress of his recovery.”

Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino said the 36-year-old Messi will not suit up for at least the club’s next two games.

Inter Miami will host Toronto FC on Wednesday night and Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

“He twisted his ankle, and the injury is present, so tests are needed and wait for results,” Martino said. “I’ve had the opportunity to see other images.”

“There will be tests done to determine the severity of the situation. We are always informed through our kinesiologist Walter Insaurralde, who is also the kinesiologist of the national team. He is very cautious at giving a final diagnosis before results are in.”

Messi is fine

Messi, 37, left the field in the 64th minute of the Copa America final against Colombia in tears after injuring his ankle.

Fortunately, Argentina captured their back-to-back Copa America title after a late extra-time goal from substitute Lautaro Martinez.

Messi assured he is doing well in an Instagram post on Monday and that he hoped to return soon.

“I’m fine, thank God, and I hope I can be back on the field soon enjoying what I like to do the most,” he wrote.”

“I’m very happy, especially because we achieved the goal we had and Fide is leaving us but with another Cup.”

“Thanks to everyone who was supporting us, this team has a lot of present and a lot of future too. Go Argentina, damn it!”
