Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez scored twice each, while substitute Roberto Firmino ended the nightmare at Anfield for Man United with a late goal in the 88th minute.
Records were broken, walls to walls, in a game that will be, absolutely, talked about for years for Liverpool’s fans who were celebrating the most remarkable victory in a game called the England’s derby.
Liverpool 7-0 Man United – Highlights
The home side started well but Erik Ten Hag’s side were playing well when they fell behind after 43 minutes.
Andy Robertson’s sublime through-ball played in Gakpo and the Nertherlands striker calmly steered the ball into the far corner.
Two minutes after half-time, Liverpool took full control as they doubled the lead.
Luke Shaw’s sloppy pass started a second half of terrors as Elliott’s cross set up Nunez to score from point blank range.
Like a hot knife through butter, goals just came after goals.
Three minutes later, Salah took the spotlight when The Egyptian king danced his way forward, put 2022 World Cup champion Lisandro Martinez on his backside (as this became a trending meme on Social media).
He then played in Gakpo who slotted the ball past United keeper David de Gea for a beautiful finish. The former Chelsea man slashed a beautiful goal at 66th minute to make it 4-0.
It was 5-0 after 76 minutes after Henderson put in a lovely cross and Nunez glanced a fine header into the far post, away fans were already seen leaving Anfield at this stage.
Salah scored another one as he ripped off his shirt to celebrate when he broke the record of Robbie Fowler with his 129th Premier League goal for the Reds.
Home side’s talisman received yellow card for the wild celebration but he could not care less when he became the club’s record Premier League scorer.
Firmino, who confirmed to be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, was set up by Salah to get the 7th goal with a low shot through De Gea’s legs, even at 5-0.
Man United’s quadruples dream heavily hit
While it was a statement for Liverpool, the defeat was nothing more than a ultimate humiliation for Ten Hag’s side.
There were tons of talks of a quadruple, which now looks utterly ridiculous with this loss for Red Devils.
With Carabao title already in hand, Man United must act up and leave this pathetic performance behind, with Europa League, EPL title race and FA Cup still on track.
