Liverpool said they are “currently in contact with Alan’s family to provide our support at this difficult time, and our thoughts, wishes and hopes are with Alan and all of the Hansen family.”

Hansen’s legacy
Hansen, 68, joined Liverpool from Partick Thistle in 1977.
During his 14-year stint at the Anfield club, he won 16 trophies overall.
These trophies included eight league titles, three European Cups, two FA Cups, and three League Cups.
The Scotish centre-back is in the top 10 for all-time appearances for the club, having played 620 matches.
Hansen also appeared 26 times for his country and was a member of Scotland’s 1982 World Cup side.
