Modric stays at Madrid for another season.
Despite considering leaving years ago, Modric has twice decided to continue the love story with Los Blancos.
At the Champions League celebration when Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund to clinch the 15th title, the former Tottenham Hotspur already hinted at his extension:
“See you next season, Madrista!” Modric said after the final whistle at Wembley.

Modric will continue to grace the Bernabeu for at least one more season. The Croatian’s contract was due to expire at the end of June, but a new deal has been reached that will see him remain in Spain long after turning 39.
What is different with the latest contract extension?
The 38-year-old has accepted a lower salary as part of his new deal after taking on more of a secondary role at the club this season.
Modric has been absent from Madrid in recent seasons due partly to the emergence of Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde, and Jude Bellingham. He started just 18 games as Real cruised to another La Liga title.
From trophy-draught to being the most decorated player in history
When Luka Modric left Tottenham at 27, he hadn’t lifted a single trophy in Europe’s top-five leagues… He’s now the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history, winning 26 trophies.
Yet Modric is fine with this diminished role. Real’s incredible knack for acquiring and developing central midfielders has left them in a position to continue competing for trophies.
Next for Modric
After a triumphant season with a double at Madrid, Modric will head to Germany as he leads Croatia at Euro 2024.
An international trophy would be the icing for Modric. However, UEFA has yet to do Croatia any favours by pitting them in a group alongside Spain, Italy and Albania. Zlatko Dalic’s squad is undoubtedly strong enough to make an impact in Germany, though.
