Guardiola unsure if Man City is ready for the Premier League season

Manchester City defeated rivals Manchester United on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Wembley on Saturday.

Guardiola’s side will kick off their title defense against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next weekend.

However, the 53-year-old manager stated that their Community Shield victory doesn’t guarantee the team is fully prepared.

“I cannot answer if we are ready,” said the City manager.

“We could have lost today, we were close to losing with minutes left so that’s why you have to wait. I saw many things today that I like. The first 35 minutes were beyond excellent, unexpected for the time we are together.”

“We are far from the best”

City were about to drop the game until substitute Bernardo Silva scored an equalizer with a close-range header a minute before time.

Defender Manuel Akanji scored the spot kick after Silva had earlier missed in the shootout.

Meanwhile, Jonny Evans and Jadon Sancho failed to convert their penalties for United.

“We are far from our best. It’s normal but it’s better starting with one trophy won,” Guardiola said.

“It’s nicer but the reality is nothing changed for the fact we won.”
