Saudi move appeals de Bruyne

The Manchester City midfielder has one year left on his contract.

The Belgium international admitted that he is considering a Saudi move due to the country’s monetary perks.

“At my age you have to be open to everything,” De Bruyne said in an interview with Belgian outlet HLN.

“You’re talking about incredible amounts of money in what may be the end of my career. Sometimes you have to think about that.”

“If I play there for two years, I will be able to earn an incredible amount of money. Before that I had to play football for 15 years. I may not even reach that amount yet.

“Then you have to think about what that could mean next. But at the moment I haven’t had to think about that yet.”

Stars who took their talents to Saudi

Some notable football stars have accepted lucrative contracts to play in Saudi Arabia, and this has been a trend for quite some time.

The most notable among them is football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed with Al Nassr in late 2022.

High-profile players such as Neymar (Al Hilal), Karim Benzema (Al-Ittihad), and even de Bruyne’s Man City former teammate Allan Saint-Maximin also took their talents to Saudi.

MLS move as well?

De Bruyne has been playing at City for nine years, winning the Premier League title six times.

In addition to Saudi Pro League, the soon-to-be-33-year-old is also linked with a move to MLS.

Nonetheless, De Bruyne said he has to make a decision for his family.

“These are conversations that we are increasingly having as a family,” added De Bruyne.

“I still have one year left on my contract, so I have to think about what could happen. My eldest son is now eight years old and knows nothing but England.

“He also asks how long I will play for City. Once the moment comes, we will have to deal with it in a certain way.”
